Important seminar re changes to BC Society Act

The BC Government is looking at amending the BC Society Act. If it does so, it will affect the operations of the more than 26,000 societies that operate in BC.  The proposed changes could have a significant impact on the way nonprofits do business, including in some cases adding a requirement for audited financial statements. By attending a free seminar on February 13, you will learn about the proposed changes, be able to provide feedback, learn what concerns other nonprofits have and get answers to your questions.

The free seminar will be held on February 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Choi Hall (S.U.C.C.E.S.S. at 28 West Pender Street). Pre-registration is required – link to registration site here. A session by conference call will be held on Thursday, February 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. for those unable to attend the February 13 event in person. The BC government’s Society Act Discussion Paper is available for download from the BC government website. Comments on the proposed changes should be sent by April 30, 2012, in electronic form to:
