Gypsy-jazz, Egyptian percussion and flamenco

February 3, 2012

Get ready to lose yourself in the musical world of Lache Cercel and The Roma Swing Ensemble as Peninsula Productions brings another dazzling performance to White Rock on Friday, February 10th at 8pm. The Ensemble’s passionate and exciting mixture of eastern European melodies, swing jazz harmonies and Egyptian percussion will be joined by the flamenco guitar and vocal performance of Emad Armoush and dancer Maria Avila. And Peninsula Productions’ very own Wendy Bollard will add to the thrill with her exceptional jazz vocals.

Tickets are $25 in advance from Surrey Arts Centre, or Tapestry Music and will be available at the door before the concert at $30.

For a taste of Lache Cercel and the Roma Swing Ensemble, here is a link to a wonderful video clip, courtesy of their website, of Lache and Calvin’s dueling violins (be patient, it takes a few moments to load but is worth the wait).

Lovely Steve Rosenberg video of Lache playing with cast….he’s a sweetheart, and so talented! In Vancouver on the West side of Granville near 6th is a cafe called Cheesecake, Etc. run by my friends Edith and Michael Sims. They and their son Daniel do so much for so many.
Mike is a composer and keyboard artist, Edith a singer, and together they have performed worldwide.
I was fortunate to have been asked to sing Michael’s composition,” Patricia’s Song” which he wrote prior to the wedding of Daniel & his wonderful wife Patricia. The request came when Mike and Edith were planning to record a CD, some years back. Indeed, it is available at Cheesecake, Etc. When you play it, listen to that track ~ “Patricia’s Song” ~ wherein you will hear me singing, and Lache Cercel, musician extraordinaire, performing on violin. Love that you posted this video, Patricia! S.B.

I will be sure to look up the CD. I know how wonderfully you sing so it will be extra special hearing you and Lache Cercel together. Thanks for your comment.
