The Marvelous Wonderettes – Vancouver premiere

January 27, 2012

Want to find out what turned your parents’, or  your grandparents’ cranks – or maybe even trip down your personal memory lane? The production has kindly offered two free tickets which I would love to pass on to one of my readers. Tell me by February 2 why you deserve the tickets (by posting a comment to this blog) and I will pick the best answer. The lucky person will get the tickets. Bring your bubblegum and hairspray and hope to see you there!

The year is 1958, it’s the night of the school prom, the girls are wearing crinolines, and the place is jumping as four girls with big dreams belt out songs like “Mr Sandman”, “Lollipop” and “Lipstick on Your Collar”. Join the girls as they perform at their high school reunion 10 years later where they regale us with songs like “Son of a Preacher Man”, “It’s My Party” and “Leader of the Pack” and we learn how their lives have changed.

It is a blast down a musical memory lane as the musical production “The Marvelous Wonderettes hits the PAL Theatre in Coal Harbour, Vancouver, from February 8 through to February 26, with matinees on the 12, 19, & 26 at 2 PM and a preview performance on Wednesday, February 8th at 8 PM.

Developed by Roger Bean in 1999, Bean, producing partner David Elzer, and Peter Schneider created a Los Angeles production of the show which ran at the El Portal Theatre for two years and received Ovation nominations and awards. The show also had a successful run at the Westside Theater in New York City from September 2008 to January 2010 with the New York Times calling it “One irresistible Musical! – An utter charm bomb”.

‘Hey Look!…It’s a Co-op!’ is bringing the production to Vancouver. It is directed by Jerry Jay Cranford (The Music Man), and accompanying him is Music Director, Steven Greenfield (Seussical, Debbie Does Dallas). The all local, very talented cast giving the songs life will be Lalainia Lindbjerg (Red Rock Diner, Swing) as Cindy Lou, Meghan Anderssen (Annie Get your Gun, Hairspray) playing Betty Jean, Jennie Neumann (Next to Normal, Hairspray) filling the role of Missy, and the well-known Dianna Kaarina (Les Miserables, Rent) starring as Suzy.

More information can be found at the Marvelous Wonderettes website. For group bookings, contact 604-880-1564. Tickets range from $25 – $30 and are available at the door or online at Tickets Tonight.
