The Marvelous Wonderettes throw quite the party
Last night, a friend and I had the pleasure of attending the premiere of The Marvelous Wonderettes at the Pal Theatre in Vancouver. A small, intimate theatre tucked into a building next to the Bayshore, the Pal Theatre is the perfect venue for this performance. Warmly greeted at the door and escorted up in the elevator, we had fabulous seats for this romp back in time.
The performance starts with four girls performing at their high school graduation, all innocence and big dreams. We then travel with them to their reunion 10 years later where they serenade us again, a little older and a little wiser but still with the wonderful enthusiasm of youth. The music was great, the four performers made the songs come alive. And – no lip syncing for this crowd – the music, performers, high energy dancing and hijinks, with unexpected audience participation, made for a thoroughly entertaining evening. A special nod goes to the band which played flawlessly.
Surprisingly to me, the audience was a real mix, from the little girl in her beautiful party dress, a few of us who actually lived through the 50s and 60s, and the balance being an enthusiastic group in their 20s and 30s. Loved the few who came dressed in theme, would have been great to see more.
The show runs until the 26th of February, for information contact The Marvelous Wonderettes.
